Tibetan Community Center

To strengthen the Tibetan-Canadian community, and to promote the continuity and development of Tibetan social, cultural, and artistic traditions, the Tibetan Association of Alberta is working towards establishing a Tibetan Community Centre in Calgary.

Our mission is to provide a venue where the Tibetan Community can conduct:

Community events such as:
- Tibetan Celebrations (e.g. Tibetan New Year)
- Fundraisers (e.g. Tibetan Bazaar)
Community meetings
Tibetan School program
Prayer services
Programs to assist Tibetan Seniors and Newly-arrived Tibetans to Alberta
Lectures and Informational sessions
This centre would also serve as a gateway to the living culture of Tibet for the Calgary community at large. It would be a resource for anyone interested in learning more about Tibet, its language and culture.

Programs

As the preservation and promotion of the Tibetan culture is a priority for the Tibetan Association of Alberta, the Gangchen Rigney Zinkyong Tibetan school was established.

This school is run by committed members of our Association who provide instruction in the following areas:

Language classes (Tibetan reading and writing)
Traditional Tibetan Folk Song and Dance
Musical instruments:
- Dranyen (Tibetan lute)
- Flute
- Piwang
- Yangjin
Classes are held on Saturdays from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.

The goal of the Tibetan school is to instill in our young Tibetans a strong sense of their Tibetan roots and identity.

Prayer services are also conducted in conjunction with the language and culture classes on Saturdays.
